v0.3 — Migrating Panels from Old Master to New Master Symbols

Building Masters | 1Ds | Phase 1

Last Updated: May 5, 2026

ARTBOARD SETUP & PANEL MIGRATION

OVERVIEW

We left off extracting all the 1D panels and removing guides, then I moved the panels into the correct collar and sleeve symbols for each size. Next I updated the version info, checked the collar and right side orientation, aligned everything to 0,0, and ungrouped or regrouped as needed to keep colors and shapes correct. I verified differences between front and back, joined points where appropriate, and repeated through Adult and Youth sizes. This phase is done, transferring panels from the old master to the new master base symbols, ready for the next cut and sew lines step. No viewer action was requested.

STEP-by-STep guide

1. Extract and organize the panels from the old master 0:00

  • Start with the old 4003 master file.

  • Extract all 1D panels from the original artwork.

  • Group the panels, then remove the guides.

  • Identify the panels that need to be transferred:

    • front

    • back

    • collar

    • right sleeve

  • Copy the extracted panels so they can be pasted into the new symbol structure.

2. Paste the panels into the collar symbol and repeat for all sizes 0:20

  • Paste the copied panels into the collar symbol.

  • Repeat the same transfer process for every size.

  • This completes the panel transfer portion and moves the file into the next stage of the workflow.

3. Update the version information before continuing 1:06

generated-image-at-00:01:06

  • Save the file as the next version instead of overwriting the previous one.

  • Update the version ID to the next number in the sequence.

  • Update the date field to match the current day.

  • This keeps the master file organized and preserves prior work.

4. Open the collar base symbol and isolate the correct panel set 1:45

  • Go into the collar base layer, where the transferred panels now live.

  • Double-click into the collar symbol.

  • Remove any panels that do not belong in that symbol.

  • Set the artwork to the 0,0 position on the X/Y axis.

  • Ungroup the artwork once it is positioned correctly.

5. Move through each symbol and paste the correct panel into place 2:57

generated-image-at-00:02:57

  • Use either the Symbols panel or visually click into the next symbol.

  • Paste the correct panel into the front base symbol.

  • Repeat for the back base symbol.

  • Each time, align the panel to 0,0.

  • The layer color should update automatically when pasted into the correct symbol.

6. Verify left/right orientation before finalizing the sleeve 4:11

  • Flip the sleeve artwork as needed.

  • Check the identifying shape detail on the panel to confirm side orientation.

  • The right sleeve should appear opposite when flipped, so use the ear/indentation shape as the visual cue.

  • This prevents accidentally placing the wrong sleeve panel into the symbol.

7. Repeat the transfer process across all remaining sizes 5:32

  • Continue the same workflow for each size.

  • Ungroup when needed, then paste the correct panel into the matching symbol.

  • Some older masters may require extra cleanup, such as joining points or removing unnecessary grouping.

  • The process is repeated size by size until all symbols are updated.

8. Use the Symbols panel to move faster once the workflow is familiar 10:35

generated-image-at-00:10:35

  • Once you know the symbol structure, navigate directly through the Symbols panel.

  • This avoids repeatedly clicking in and out of artwork.

  • The symbols are organized alphabetically, which makes it easier to jump between collar, front, back, and sleeve bases.

  • This is the faster method once the process becomes routine.

9. Handle special cases and older pattern differences carefully 18:37

generated-image-at-00:18:37

  • Some symbols contain multiple grouped elements.

  • If registration marks or sewing ticks are present, leave those grouped if they are meant to stay together.

  • Older styles may have noticeably different shapes, so compare carefully before pasting.

  • If something looks wrong, use the visual differences to catch the issue immediately.

10. Finish the remaining sizes and confirm the transfer is complete 20:27

generated-image-at-00:20:27

  • Continue through the remaining sizes, including large and youth sizes.

  • Watch for style differences between old and new masters.

  • Verify each symbol after pasting to make sure the correct panel is in the correct place.

  • Once all panels are transferred, the base-symbol update phase is complete.

11. Save the completed master and version up for the next phase 39:53

generated-image-at-00:39:53

  • Confirm that all panels have been successfully transferred from the old master to the new master base symbols.

  • Save the file.

  • Update the master version number so you do not overwrite previous work.

  • Move on to the next phase of the workflow: cut and sew lines for the symbols.

  • The file is now ready for the next stage in version 0.4.
