How to Verison up a Master

Updating A Master with Minor or Major Version

Last Updated: August 6, 2026

MASTER UPDATE

OVERVIEW

This Loom provides a step-by-step explanation of how to correct a master design and publish a minor version update in Team Design. It demonstrates how to duplicate the pocket master, remove unnecessary elements, and resolve an issue caused by the pockets layer being left enabled. The update changes the master from version 4.0 to 4.1 and records the date as 8/6 for the new folder placement. The process includes removing pockets from both the black- and white-thread masters, verifying the new version ID, and capturing screenshots to document the changes. Finally, it explains how to preserve the established naming convention, reload the corrected master, and replace the previous file so the team can access the updated version.

STEP-by-STep guide

1. Identify the issue in the duplicated master 0:00

  • The master was duplicated from the primary version that already had pockets.
  • The mistake was that the pocket layer was left turned on in the duplicate.
  • The goal is to remove that pocket detail from the updated master before replacing the old version.

2. Open the master design folder and locate the correct file 0:25

  • Go to the live folder in Team Design.
  • Navigate through:
    • Master Design folder
    • Locker
    • Uniforms
    • Player Line
  • This is where the master file should be versioned and updated.
  • Since this is a minor update, keep it in the same folder structure rather than moving it elsewhere.

3. Treat this as a minor version update 0:47

  • This is not a major version change.
  • Minor updates stay in the same folder, but the version number is updated so everyone can tell something changed.
  • Example: the file moves from version 4.0 to 4.1.
  • Once the update is complete, the latest master replaces the old one in the folder.

4. Remove the pocket layer from the master 1:29

  • Open the master file.
  • Remove any approved leftover pocket elements.
  • The transcript notes this kind of cleanup is fully approved because it improves the master for everyone using it.
  • The pocket detail appears in the thread layers, so it needs to be removed there.

5. Turn off pockets in all relevant thread layers 2:00

  • Go into the thread-related layers.
  • Remove the pockets from the thread layer.
  • Check both thread color versions, including:
    • White thread
    • Black thread
  • Make sure the pocket layer is turned off everywhere it appears.

6. Update the version ID and date 2:43

  • Change the version ID to the new minor version, 4.1.
  • Update the date fields to the current date shown in the transcript: 8/6.
  • This marks the file as the latest approved master version.

7. Verify the remaining thread variants 3:18

  • Take a screenshot if needed for confirmation.
  • Check the white thread version carefully.
  • If something looks wrong, correct it before moving on.
  • The transcript shows a quick correction was needed before continuing.

8. Confirm the width and lock the file back up 4:00

  • Review the width settings to make sure they are correct.
  • Once the pocket removal and version updates are confirmed, lock the file back up.
  • This prevents accidental edits after the update is complete.

9. Repeat the pocket removal for the black thread version 5:25

  • Switch from white to black thread.
  • Confirm the pockets are removed there as well.
  • Once both thread versions are clean, the master update is complete.

10. Save the updated master and continue working 7:13

  • Save the updated master as version 4.1.
  • If you were actively designing, stop and update the master first, then return to your work.
  • This may mean doing some work twice, but it keeps the design aligned with the latest master.

11. Replace the old file with the updated version 7:31

  • Copy the naming convention from the existing file.
  • Duplicate it without the version number in the name, since Team Design naming can get confusing.
  • Wait for the new file to finish loading.
  • Drag the updated master into place and replace the old one.

12. Final check: confirm the new master is live 8:16

  • Verify the replacement worked.
  • The file should now show no version in the name, but still display 4.1 at the bottom.
  • Confirm there are no pockets remaining.
  • The folder is now updated to 8.6 and the master is ready to use.

DONE!
