v0.18 — Applying Care Instructions Layers

Building Masters | 1Ds | Phase 4

Last Updated: May 5, 2026

FINISHING LAYERS

Overview

In this lesson, you will learn how to align and quality-check the Care Instructions layer across all sizes using the Adult Large as your starting point.

You will begin by turning on the Care Instructions layer and aligning the Care Zone Panels so the green and yellow safety-zone intersection sits at the “G” in “Signature,” while staying clear of the red sew-zone at the bottom. When a curved bottom edge is needed, you will practice applying Effect > Warp > Arc with a negative value (for example, -12) to create a controlled curve that keeps the reference zones intact.

Next, you will hide the care-structure panel once alignment is correct, and then verify each size. You will do this by confirming a consistent 32–163 dimension and keeping the X‑axis at 0 for each symbol. As a final quality check, you will review all symbols for misaligned sizes and learn how to correct any issues by duplicating the symbol, breaking it apart, removing the incorrect group, and swapping in the correct size so the entire care-instruction system stays accurate and consistent.

STEP-by-STep guide

1. Turn on the Care Instructions layer for the base size 0:00

  • Start with the Adult Large base size.

  • Turn on the Care Instructions layer.

  • Notice that the care instructions already have their own styling and are driven by the updated cut lines from earlier stages.

  • Because the care layer is based on the cut lines, any earlier cut-line changes should already be reflected here.

2. Align the care instructions to the base panel 0:46

generated-image-at-00:00:46

  • Move the care instructions aside if needed so you can access the base layer underneath.

  • Align the care instructions to the panel manually.

  • Since the care layer can block clicks, you may need to shift it out of the way to work on the base alignment.

  • Verify the placement visually before moving on.

3. Confirm the care zone panel size matches the garment size 1:15

generated-image-at-00:01:15

  • Click into the Care Instructions layer and inspect the Care Zone Panels.

  • Drag the panel and compare the size label shown on both versions.

  • If the sizes do not match, replace the panel with the updated size.

  • This ensures the care instructions are using the correct size-specific layout.

4. Understand the care instruction alignment zones 2:01

generated-image-at-00:02:01

  • The care instructions include three key reference areas:

    • Fold Line

    • Safety Zone

    • Center Line

  • The red area represents what gets sewn when the garment is flipped, so avoid placing important content too low.

  • The goal is to align the care instructions around the point where the yellow Center Line meets the green Safety Zone.

5. Add a curved bottom when needed using Warp > Arc 2:44

generated-image-at-00:02:44

  • If the care instructions need a curved bottom, use the text effects controls.

  • Open the Effect dropdown and choose Warp > Arc.

  • Adjust the arc amount, such as -12, depending on the curve needed.

  • The green, yellow, and red reference zones will arc along with the text.

6. Center the care instructions using the signature reference 3:21

generated-image-at-00:03:21

  • For the Adult Large size, align the center line where the green and yellow meet with the G in Signature.

  • This places the care instructions in the preferred middle position.

  • Once aligned, hide the Care Instructions layer and click out of the object.

  • This confirms the placement is locked in correctly.

7. Repeat the alignment process for each 1D panel 4:28

generated-image-at-00:04:28

  • Care instructions are only placed on the 1D panels.

  • They are not shown on the 2D or 3D panels.

  • Centering must account for whether the care instructions sit inside or outside the panel boundary.

  • Continue aligning each size one by one until all 1D panels are centered correctly.

8. Use the symbol view for cleaner alignment 7:37

generated-image-at-00:07:37

  • Open the symbol and adjust the care instructions directly inside it.

  • Reduce the width if needed, such as setting it to around 12, to make the layout smaller and cleaner.

  • Align the center of the text to the G in Signature again.

  • Hide the care structure panel afterward to confirm the final result looks correct.

9. Verify the layer does not need a clipping mask 9:13

generated-image-at-00:09:13

  • This care instruction layer does not use a clipping mask.

  • Since nothing should extend beyond the fabric or cut lines, there is no need to extract or mask the content.

  • Working directly in the symbol gives a clean white background and fewer distractions.

  • This makes alignment easier and more accurate.

10. Check each size for zero X-axis alignment 10:03

generated-image-at-00:10:03

  • After aligning one size, verify the x-axis is zero.

  • Move to the next size and repeat the check.

  • Continue scrolling through the sizes and confirming alignment.

  • Once a size is verified, move on to the next without redoing completed work.

11. Perform a quality check on all sizes 14:16

generated-image-at-00:14:16

  • Review the full set of care instructions to make sure they all line up correctly.

  • If one size looks off, open it and inspect the symbol.

  • Some sizes may not have updated correctly during earlier adjustments.

  • Use this stage as a final quality check before finishing.

12. Fix any misaligned sizes by rebuilding the symbol 14:49

generated-image-at-00:14:49

  • If a size is off, delete the incorrect version.

  • Duplicate the symbol, break it apart, and bring the correct size out.

  • Delete the old group and switch in the correct symbol version.

  • This is more reliable than trying to drag the object into place manually.

13. Finish by confirming all care instructions are aligned 16:20

generated-image-at-00:16:20

  • Do not rely on manual dragging if the symbol is misbehaving.

  • Rebuild the symbol placement when needed so the alignment is exact.

  • Confirm the final result looks correct across all sizes.

  • Once everything is aligned, the care instruction layering process is complete.
